Poor poor Katy. While she was patiently waiting for Madonna to step aside so her The One That Got Away 2.0 could climb to number one, XELLE stormed in at the last minute and took the top spot instead, with a song that, to make matters even worse, sounds like it was a little bit inspired by her very own Firework.

New entries:1. XELLE - Invincible3. Madonna - Like A Prayer (live at the Superbowl)5. XELLE - Hologram19. Rihanna - Red Lipstick37. Lady Gaga - So Happy I Could Marry The NightIn other news: Invincible got us back into XELLE’s previous single Hologram as well, Like A Prayer is a better song than Give Me All Your Luvin’ (‘you read it here first!’), one of our initially least favourite Talk Talk Talk songs finally clicked, and if you throw two Gaga songs together you essentially get.. a Gaga song. Which is still quite good.

Once again some really enjoyable songs leave, which of course doesn’t mean we don’t love them, or hey wouldn’t have been here in the first place!
A new Song Chart will be up next week, meanwhile you also can keep up with (the biggest part of) our chart on Spotify!

Congratulation Saturdays, it’s been very close for weeks, but after 6 weeks at number 2 you finally got that number 1 position! (Although if we’d been running these charts last year they’d probably been there before)
Rihanna’s Talk Talk Talk hasn’t stopped working it’s way up our charts either, after we decided this week that we have officially ended up preferring it to her previous album. And then there’s the new entries, that aren’t very new at all. In fact they’re both over 3 years old, but being reminded of them again they were both on very heavy rotation over the past few days. Most likely they’ll leave the chart just as quickly next week!

Well, and there goes another three fabulous albums, that are actually all still on our iPods but there’s only this much room in a top 15..
Our weekly Song Chart should be up later tonight!

It’s about time for some new material to be released because a lot of the songs in our song chart right now mainly thank their positions to a lack of fresh competition. Which is not to say these aren’t 40 songs we love, but just a little more action wouldn’t hurt!

New entries:2. Katy Perry - Part Of Me7. R.I.O. - Like I Love You19. Taio Cruz - There She GoesThe power of Madonna is keeping Katy from shooting right to the top of the list, but number 2 isn’t exactly bad for a single we didn’t even know was being released a week ago.The R.I.O. song entering at number 7 is quite a random one, cause it’s well over a year old. But it’s our list, we just discovered it, and we love it (generic dance tune ahoy!), so it’s earned it’s spot. As for Taio, he thanks his spot to our iTunes randomly playing him a lot this week, although the song is catchy enough. It’s no Dynamite though.

3 great songs, but they’re a bit past their prime for us. We’re as shocked as anyone how quickly Elephant’s leaving the room already, but, unlike any other Alexandra song, we just have no desire to go back to it at the moment.

These albums charts are making it rather clear that this time of year really isn’t the most exciting time for new releases. Nevertheless this week’s, otherwise quite samey, chart, sees one new entry in Norwegian singer Lise Karlsnes, who’s album full of Robyn lite electropop won us over as soon as we gave it a listen, so we suggest you do the same!

Congrats, Madge, it seems like your Superbowl performance at least landed you one number one already! Not the biggest surprise considering how much we loved the song, video, and performance, but definitely a worthy successor to top the list after Kelly’s Stronger. Kelly’s still going strong hanging around in the top 3 though, while Alexandra Stan somehow worked her way back up there too (we somehow just keep being obsessed with that song, don’t ask why!).

New entries:5. Rochelle - What A Life6. Ilse DeLange - Doluv2luvu22. Rihanna - Do Ya Thang25. Alyssa Reid ft. Jump Smokers - Alone Again26. JLS - Take A Chance On Me32. Parade - Yes You AreThis week’s batch of newcomers is being led by two dutch ladies, X Factor winner Rochelle and country chick Ilse. Both acts most of you probably won’t be very familiar with, but definitely worth checking out.
We already discovered Alyssa Reid last summer, and even though, as big fans of the original, we probably should hate what she did to Heart’s Alone, we just can’t resist that chorus, even when it’s being covered.
As for the other three new entries: they are just the usual bunch of ‘album tracks/singles that suddenly clicked, months after we first heard them’.

Another not extremely thrilling week for our charts, although this time we have at least one new entry. Well, new as in a ‘november 2011 release’, but we finally had the time to properly listen to the Rogue Traders’ new album/Greatest Hits bundle The Sound Of The Drums, and it’s pretty much everything we like about them.

Meanwhile, Kelly spends her 4th week at the top, we’re still really getting into the One Direction and Parade albums (the latter really is surprisingly stellar for a flopped girl group), and the other 11 albums all are still being more or less fabulous as well.

Our Popsessed Song Chart will be up tomorrow!

Another week with a double #1 for Kelly Clarkson! Of course it helped a little that it wasn’t the most exciting week for new songs, but either way it’s a welldeserved victory, cause we’re still not getting tired of Stronger. Unlike the majority of the list that’s falling down massively this week, allowing the more consistent tunes to climb to or stay on top.
New entries:4. Kylie Minogue - Finfer Feelings (Abbey Road Version)15. Eric Saade - Love Is Calling32. Ola - All Over The World35. Rogue Traders - Don’t Think I Love YouHardly anything properly new in the list this week, the new entries existing of album tracks that started growing on us (Rogue Traders, Eric Saade..), a 2010 single we discovered ridiculously late (Ola) and Kylie doing a new (stunning) new rendition of a 20 year old single.

Like every week the songs leaving are hardly ones we dislike, but the remaining 40 are just a little bit better or more recent!

Us having had quite a busy week doesn’t only reflect in a lack of updates, but also a lack of thrilling changes to our weekly charts, since we hardly had time to listen to any music over the past week. And so today sees a very similar album chart to last week, with only some tiny unremarkable movements in the middle. Let’s hope next week will be a bit more exciting.

It’s quite a nice week to be Kelly Clarkson. With some other songs getting old, she finally got Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) to the top of our list, making her the first artist who has topped our Songs and Album Chart, the first to simultaneously top both of them, ánd Stronger the only song to have stayed in the top 10 nonstop ever since we started these charts.

Just like in the Album Chart, the ‘first week hype’ dying down means some big drops for Young London, allowing many songs to climb back up a bit, which especially seems to benefit The Saturdays!

New entries:3. Glee - I Will Survive/Survivor8. Glee - Without You13. Gabriella Cilmi - Vicious Love24. Cher Lloyd - End Up Here29. Jason Aldean & Kelly Clarkson - Don’t You Wanna Stay35. Rogue Traders - If You Wanna Taste It36. Le Kid - Seventeen37. Kelly Clarkson - You Love Me39. Cher Lloyd - Playa BoiTwo new entries by the Glee Cast, I Will Survive/Survivor being every bit as camp as it sounds, and Guetta’s Without You working surprisingly well as a ballad. Then there’s Gabriella Cilmi’s new (buzz?) single, plus a whole bunch of album tracks that either finally clicked, or finally got enough plays to be worthy of inclusion here.
Of course this means the same amount of songs had to leave the chart, which mainly became a massacre for Young London’s album (which we’re still enjoying by the way, just not as much as most of these songs) and great songs that just got old..

Popsessed’s 2011 Top 100: #40-36

40. JLS ft. Dev - She Makes Me Wanna

A surprisingly high position for JLS, consider we’re at best casual fans, this song’s as generic as can be, and we just realized we never even saw the video, up till now. But sometimes (actually rather often) a pop song is just ‘fun’ and ‘catchy’, and there’s nothing wrong with that. This one definitely did the trick for us.

39. Pink - Bridge Of Light

In what we had accepted to be a Pink free year, this came as a very pleasant little surprise. Pink has never had a problem to find the way to our heart, but she’d never really done a proper big ballad like Bridge Of Light before, and though we never realized that it was missing from our lives, we were beyond happy when we got it. Bridge Of Light is every bit as sweet as you expect a song for an animated movie to be, but still has a Pink edge to it.

38. Adele - Set Fire To The Rain

From one big ballad to another. With the many uptempos with huge choruses on this list it was incredibly hard to decide where to put a song that isn’t about that at all. So, just like our number 37, it pretty much ended up on the line between the ‘great songs we really enjoyed’ and ‘amazing songs we’re positively obsessed with!’. And that seems about right. Compared to the other singles of the album Set Fire.. is a bit average, but if you leave those two out of it this still is a standout lead single worthy song. Plus it gave us some equally amazing remixes.

37. Rebecca Black - Friday

Apart from maybe our number 1 on this list, no song came close to being as 2011 defining as Friday. From the educational lyrics to the awkward dancing to the fascinating adlibs, we couldn’t help but love this song for all the right reasons. It might have started out like a joke, but in it’s own odd way it’s amazingly catchy, every line is damn quotable and phrases like ‘fun fun fun fun’, ‘we’re so excited’, ‘it’s friday’ and ‘partyin” will never be the same again. Considering the odd nature of the song we had trouble comparing it to all more serious attempts, but in the end somewhere in between the ‘great’ and ‘amazing’ songs seemed about right.

36. Nicola Robert - Lucky Day

And this is where we get to the ‘amazing’ songs. Considering how much we’ve been raving about Nicola this might feel like a surprisingly low spot for her, but despite being written by the almighty Dragonette, this is probably our least favourite of her three singles. Which doesn’t say much really, considering how much we love the other two. The singing seemed to get a marmite response, but we absolutely love the ‘muah muah muah’s’ and ‘spoiled kid’ ‘Ooh!’. Plus who wouldn’t want their phone to go ‘woah woah woah woah’?

Number 35-31 are coming up soon!
