New Popsession: Little Mix - The Little Mix Collection

Just like probably all of you, we were convinced that with our last mass update The Saturdays’ On Your Radar was going to be our final 2011 Popsession. As ever so often we were wrong.

No matter how much we love them, we never include individual songs, bunches of demos, or other rarities in our list of Popsessions. But when X Factor decided to turn the previously released Little Mix performances into an iTunes album, we thought we had enough of an excuse to materialize our obsession with these girls.

On paper The Little Mix Collection is nothing more than a cheap cash-in: 12 songs, all live recordings, 11 of which had already previously been released on iTunes, and their proper single or finale performances aren’t even included. Still, most of these covers are hardly carbon copies, and, just like Glee’s been known to do, in some cases they actually made us reappriciate songs, or like ones we didn’t even care for before. Meanwhile, some of those Glee covers are still amongst our mostplayed tracks, and we don’t even like that show half as much nowadays as we love the 4 Little Minxes, so we expect to be playing this collection quite a bit in the 6 months (please don’t let it be longer!) until the girls unleash proper new material.

And with that, I think we can safely say, our 2011 collection of Popsessions is done.
We ended up being obsessed with 47 albums, which is still 7 less than in 2010 (we’ve done quite an update to the archive) but nonetheless a very decent list.
