Popsessed Album Chart: 29-01-2012
Us having had quite a busy week doesn’t only reflect in a lack of updates, but also a lack of thrilling changes to our weekly charts, since we hardly had time to listen to any music over the past week. And so today sees a very similar album chart to last week, with only some tiny unremarkable movements in the middle. Let’s hope next week will be a bit more exciting.
Our Popsessed Song Chart will be up tomorrow!

What do you think? For fuck’s sake woman, start on your next album already!
We’re not impatient people at all, but can’t we just skip the X Factor tour and get right to a proper Little Mix tour already?
Stunning.
Saint Etienne - Tonight Saint Etienne’s new single Tonight is now available for free downloading on their official site! With Saint Etienne working with Richard X and (Xenomania’s) Tim Powell we’re not quite sure if it lives up to the amazingness it suggests, but it’s definitely a great song either way. |

What do you think? We no longer care what K25 is going to bring us, for with the inclusion of this song on the orchestral album our Kylie wish for 2012 has been granted. Now may we have a release date, please?
Edit: We just heard the full version will be released after this wednesday as soon as there’s 25,000 tweets to unlock it. Keep an eye on Kylie’s Tweet To Unlock page for more info!

Popsessed Song Chart 22-1-2012
It’s quite a nice week to be Kelly Clarkson. With some other songs getting old, she finally got Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) to the top of our list, making her the first artist who has topped our Songs and Album Chart, the first to simultaneously top both of them, ánd Stronger the only song to have stayed in the top 10 nonstop ever since we started these charts.
Just like in the Album Chart, the ‘first week hype’ dying down means some big drops for Young London, allowing many songs to climb back up a bit, which especially seems to benefit The Saturdays!
Two new entries by the Glee Cast, I Will Survive/Survivor being every bit as camp as it sounds, and Guetta’s Without You working surprisingly well as a ballad. Then there’s Gabriella Cilmi’s new (buzz?) single, plus a whole bunch of album tracks that either finally clicked, or finally got enough plays to be worthy of inclusion here.
Of course this means the same amount of songs had to leave the chart, which mainly became a massacre for Young London’s album (which we’re still enjoying by the way, just not as much as most of these songs) and great songs that just got old..

A new Song Chart will be up next week, meanwhile you also can keep up with (the biggest part of) our chart on Spotify!

What do you think? For the Bob Dylan tribute Chimes Of Freedom, Miley’s recorded her own version of You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, and we must say she has no problem pulling of a more country sounding song. Still, let’s hope this is no indication of her direction for future material, because we like our pop Miley way too much.
Popsessed’s 2011 Top 100: #40-36
![]() | 40. JLS ft. Dev - She Makes Me Wanna A surprisingly high position for JLS, consider we’re at best casual fans, this song’s as generic as can be, and we just realized we never even saw the video, up till now. But sometimes (actually rather often) a pop song is just ‘fun’ and ‘catchy’, and there’s nothing wrong with that. This one definitely did the trick for us. |
![]() | In what we had accepted to be a Pink free year, this came as a very pleasant little surprise. Pink has never had a problem to find the way to our heart, but she’d never really done a proper big ballad like Bridge Of Light before, and though we never realized that it was missing from our lives, we were beyond happy when we got it. Bridge Of Light is every bit as sweet as you expect a song for an animated movie to be, but still has a Pink edge to it. |
![]() | 38. Adele - Set Fire To The Rain From one big ballad to another. With the many uptempos with huge choruses on this list it was incredibly hard to decide where to put a song that isn’t about that at all. So, just like our number 37, it pretty much ended up on the line between the ‘great songs we really enjoyed’ and ‘amazing songs we’re positively obsessed with!’. And that seems about right. Compared to the other singles of the album Set Fire.. is a bit average, but if you leave those two out of it this still is a standout lead single worthy song. Plus it gave us some equally amazing remixes. |
![]() | Apart from maybe our number 1 on this list, no song came close to being as 2011 defining as Friday. From the educational lyrics to the awkward dancing to the fascinating adlibs, we couldn’t help but love this song for all the right reasons. It might have started out like a joke, but in it’s own odd way it’s amazingly catchy, every line is damn quotable and phrases like ‘fun fun fun fun’, ‘we’re so excited’, ‘it’s friday’ and ‘partyin” will never be the same again. Considering the odd nature of the song we had trouble comparing it to all more serious attempts, but in the end somewhere in between the ‘great’ and ‘amazing’ songs seemed about right. |
![]() | And this is where we get to the ‘amazing’ songs. Considering how much we’ve been raving about Nicola this might feel like a surprisingly low spot for her, but despite being written by the almighty Dragonette, this is probably our least favourite of her three singles. Which doesn’t say much really, considering how much we love the other two. The singing seemed to get a marmite response, but we absolutely love the ‘muah muah muah’s’ and ‘spoiled kid’ ‘Ooh!’. Plus who wouldn’t want their phone to go ‘woah woah woah woah’? |
Number 35-31 are coming up soon!
